Preparing for a first interview can feel daunting. On 15 October 2026, LMAC joined business volunteers at De La Salle Secondary School in Basildon to help Year 11 students practise their interview skills and take a step towards the world of work.

We were delighted to attend the school’s Mock Interview Event following an invitation from the Greater Essex Careers Hub, part of The Careers & Enterprise Company, the national body for careers education in England.
Putting preparation into practice
Nadia, our Head of Social Value & Fundraising, joined fellow business volunteers to conduct mock interviews with students who had prepared their CVs in advance.
The event gave students the opportunity to experience a real-world interview scenario in a supportive setting. By putting their preparation into practice, they could build confidence, develop their interview skills and better understand what to expect when applying for future employment opportunities.

For young people considering their next steps, opportunities to meet employers and practise these conversations can be a valuable part of their careers education.
A positive response from students
Across the event, the volunteers helped the school deliver mock interviews for nearly 140 students. Hazel, Assistant Head Teacher at De La Salle, thanked those involved and shared the encouraging initial response:
“The initial feedback from students has been extremely positive, appreciating the opportunity to practice their interview skills. I am truly amazed that we managed to get through nearly 140 students, so thank you.”
We were pleased to play our part alongside the other volunteers and support an event focused on students’ confidence and future aspirations.
Supporting young people in our communities
At LMAC, we understand the importance of working with schools and their students. Supporting employability events gives us an opportunity to share our industry knowledge and help young people explore routes into employment.
Thank you to De La Salle Secondary School and the Greater Essex Careers Hub for the invitation, and to everyone who helped make the event possible.
